We’ve Come A Long Way From the Calculator Watch
Am I the only one that had the calculator watch when they first came out? What could have been more high tech than that? A watch that not only digitally tells time, but when my classmates are typing in their clunky calculators I’m straining to see the numbers and hitting the wrong keys on my watch. Nonetheless, I looked really cool doing it. So I thought. And, I actually looked forward to math class! My grades didn’t get any better, but my attitude did.
While that was pretty high tech when I was in 5th grade, the technology has slightly improved. Now we have the Apple Watch. As if our cellular devices are not already attached to our hands at all times, they can literally be now. No longer do you have to waste all of that time reaching into your pocket or purse to check your cell phone, blah! Precious moments wasted, every time.
As a real estate agent, a calculator watch probably wouldn’t have come in handy. An Apple Watch just might. But is it worth it?
Lets break it down to see if you should invest your money and time into this new technology.
Pros…
Stay Connected
Buzz. Your phone is notifying you that something is going on in your world. Maybe it is an email. A reminder for a meeting. Or a Facebook update to let you know another one of your friends is getting married. Whatever it may be, you reach for your phone with a slight sense of anticipation. You then put it back in your pocket only to have to grab it again seconds later for another update. Repeating this process all day every day can become rather monotonous and aggravating.
The Apple Watch eliminates that frustration. Get the notifications directly on your wrist and decide which one deserves your attention. Important email? Open on your watch to check the content and directly switch to your phone if you need to reply. Don’t want to be rude and check your phone in front of another client? Check the time and notifications on your watch and don’t skip a beat.
App Capabilities
I love using apps for everything. From checking your bank account to determining how old you actually look (yeah, its a real app), we can use an app for everything. They provide a convenience that we grown accustom to and essentially need.
With the Apple Watch, you will not skip a beat on any of your applications. Don’t think you need certain apps as a real estate agent? Maybe you don’t, but certain apps sure can help in many ways. Forget about fumbling around for your phone or looking down when using Google Maps. Your applications are easily accessible with your watch.
It’s Cool
Do you have those friends that give negative reviews to major blockbuster action movies with amazing special effects? Yeah, I do too. And if you are one of those individuals, major action movies are not suppose to have this deep plot and crazy imagery, it is meant to have huge explosions and lengthy fighting scenes that make you go, whoa!
Well, the Apple Watch falls into a similar category. It just has the “awesome” factor. I don’t believe it is meant to transcend how personal smart devices are necessarily used. It is just a pretty cool compliment. Plus, clients might think that you are up to date with the times and pretty cool yourself.
Cons…
A Little Pricey
While the new gadget is very cool, it comes with a price. Starting at $549, it can be an expensive item for an extension of your other Apple products. If you see enough benefits from using the watch, it can be worth the price. But, if you are not going to utilize all it has to offer all the time, it might be best to pass on the purchase.
Difficult Navigation
It is very easy to operate an your phones or tablets seamless navigation, but the watch is a little more difficult. The interface can be a little overwhelming while searching through your apps and notifications. You can also expect some delays while experiencing lag. You can also get some flashbacks on the calculator watch with trying to use a small screen.
Get More Consumed than Normal
There needs to be an off-switch sometimes. Staying connected to everything is extremely important, but we all need downtime. We can sometimes put down the phone, as hard as it may be, but the Apple Watch just gives us another tool to never take a moment off.
Overall, this is about what works best for you. It is a pretty cool gadget and definitely the best smartwatch on the market. It can definitely be beneficial for a real estate agent in many ways.
