Small Business Tips for Realtors that Really Work
Many people say that running a real estate business is much like running another type of business. Realtors have their clients, they help those clients achieve a goal, and then are paid for it. The more clients Realtors have, the more money they earn. From this, we can see that it is true – Realtors are much like small business owners.
So how can you apply small business owner practices to your real estate business?
Keep Customer Service as a #1 Priority
Customer service is always more important than anything else you do in your business. If you don’t please your clients, you will not have a business. What this means is that when clients call you, pick up the phone. If you miss the call, be sure to call them back immediately. When clients speak to you, listen to them. When you can’t find something they want and need, admit it and try to help them in other ways. Being honest, active, and engaged with your clients will help you make more of your clients happy, so they will be more apt to refer you to people they know.
Market as Much as Possible
Marketing is a big part of being a Realtor. While you may have more clients than you can handle now, that may end once you help those people find homes. You need to feed your funnel (a marketing term), so you can continuously have clients to help throughout the year. This means that even if you are overwhelmed with work helping people find and close on homes, you should still be marketing yourself. Never allow yourself to slip with marketing because it takes time to get clients when you start back up again.
Be Good to Others
Customer service is important, but being good to others means respecting your colleagues. In the real estate business, there are some people who are not kind to their colleagues. They may do it, so they can get the commission or because they want the prestige of selling a home. While others may do it to you and people you know, it’s never a good idea for you to do it. You may need to count on those people later and treating them badly now will make it hard on you. Be as nice as possible to others and you may just find that some of them will be nice to you when you need them to be.
Take a Break
It can be easy to work too much as a Realtor. You can work on closings and paperwork all day and then show houses in the evenings and weekends. Before you know it, you could be spending every day all day working. This can quickly lead to burn out, so be sure to give yourself some time away from it. Schedule it in if you need to because that is one of the best ways to ensure you do get time to yourself.
